Quinta do Infantado Reserva Especial Ruby Port

15,95 Incl. BTW

A beautiful Reserva Ruby Port! Dark purple with a bright ruby red edge. The nose shows a lot of dark fruit: black raspberry and grape jam. Juicy at first, delicious fruit with a well-defined middle and medium length on the warm, well-balanced finish. There is significant grip and tannin for a wine of this class, as well as remarkable freshness and complexity.

Availability: In stock

The special thing about the Port wines of Quinta do Infantado is that they are predominantly less sweet than the Port of other brands. This gives them more power in the flavor, which is not muddled by the sweet content. The Port wines of Quinta do Infantado have therefore the flavor description medium-dry.

This Reserva Ruby Port is a blend (composition) of different Port wines and harvest years. The Port is aged in concrete and stainless steel to limit the oxidative properties obtained with wood aging. The semi-dry style gives this Ruby focus and reduces the cloying sweetness.

On the palate: This Port is rich, but not cloying. A lively aroma of plum and blackberry, laced with traces of cocoa powder and black pepper.

I have to say, I’m really impressed, this was way more than I would expect from a basic Ruby and one that I just want to keep drinking.

For a “simple” Ruby Port it is very good, complex with a medium body and full mouthfeel. Fruit upfront as expected from a Ruby, the palate is full of rich grapes, some cherry, raspberry, red currant and in the background I sense a hint of smoke, earth and possibly even aged leather. It’s a very nice Ruby that can compete with many LBVs.
