This Port wine was intended to be a Vintage Port wine, but has been stored in wooden barrels for about 4 to 6 years. As a result of this prolonged aging, Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) has more wood aromas than Vintage Port wines.
Dalva LBV 2017 Port has a very good quality-to-price ratio and can be drunk immediately without decanting.
On the palate: exuberantly fruity: raspberries, blackberries, wild berries. Full body, spicy and fresh with a lingering aftertaste.
Storage: store upright in a cool, dark place. It develops very slowly in the bottle and can be kept for several years.
Serve: between 16 and 18ºC. Perfect for drinking alone or with strong cheeses and desserts based on wild berries or dark chocolate.
Tasting notes:
WineAlign: Medium + intense aromas and fruit from the start with plums, figs and hints of fruit.
16 pts Revista de Vinhos: exuberant fruitiness: raspberries, blackberries, wild berries. Full body, spicy and fresh with a lingering aftertaste.
Port Forum: Deep red with tones of scarlet instead of purple; medium width rim. Soft and subdued on the nose with soft ripe fruit. Lovely enveloping fruit on the palate, sweet blackcurrant and a hint of rock rose. Nice floral complexity offsets well the tannins which have a good grip. There is a slight acidic ferocity in the finish before the long, tart blackcurrant finish. 90/100.
