This Vintage Port is richly textured, verging on opulent. Complex and intriguing on the nose, where smoky mineral aromas evoke memories of the sun-drenched Douro, supported by blackberries and a hint of maple syrup. This is a savory Vintage style, emphasizing the resinous green scent of Esteva, while the fruit remains black and closed. Time must bring the fruit out of its hiding place, but it will likely remain sleek and elegant. Solid red in color, with a center that is almost opaque. Subdued on the nose, with some soft black licorice. Sweet and delicious on entry, with soft, sweet blackberries and rich blackberry. Soft tannins maintain the beautiful floral focus. Hot aftertaste, with a dry powdery texture and a long fruit finish.
Storage: Bottles should lie horizontally, in a cool dark place. Matures slowly, develops and refines in the bottle for decades.
Serve: Decant and serve between 16 and 18ºC, in a suitable glass. Walnuts are an excellent complement to Vintage Port, as are various cheeses such as Stilton and Dorset Blue Vinny. So are dried fruits such as apricots or figs. Or just enjoy the unadulterated taste in a good glass with good company.
