Pintas
Pintas is a 70 year old vineyard, whose soil characteristics and more than thirty grape varieties, produce defined terroir wines. The vineyard is located in the Vale de Mendiz, on a steep south-facing slope and comprises two hectares of old vines.
The Pintas vineyard is spectacular and, with its thirty different varieties of grapes, presents an enormously complex and challenging palette of aromatics. Sorting out the large variety of grapes is essential and must be done with precision. The grapes ripen at different times. Processing into port wine requires specific skills in this vineyard that are not used in other wine-producing areas. Thus, the grapes are fermented with the stalk in traditional concrete tanks (“lagares”) and trampled on in the traditional way. Then the wine goes to 70% new oak barrels for wine fermentation.
The result is a delicious, luscious, seductive red modern port with a classic look, a concentration of fruit, allied to a lively freshness.
